Picked colors

Colors you pick show up here. Pick as many as you like. They stay here until you import or clear them.

Opens the editor and adds these colors as one group, with names, shades, contrast checks and code export.

How it works

  1. The empty video color picker with a drop area

    1Drop your video

Drag an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file onto the page or choose it. It plays right in your browser.

  2. A paused video frame in the viewer with the timeline and frame-step buttons

    2Find the frame

Play, scrub the timeline or step frame by frame. “Pick a color” pauses the video so you can zoom into the frame.

  3. A grid of picked color swatches with HEX codes and color names

    3Collect your colors

Every pick lands in the grid below with its HEX code and name. Pick as many as you like, copy them or remove the ones you don't need.

  4. The PickXColor editor showing the imported colors as a named group of cards

    4Open them in the editor

Press “Import into PickXColor editor” to add all colors as one group, with names, shades, contrast checks and code export.

Frequently asked questions

Is it privacy-safe and GDPR-compliant?

Yes. Your video is opened and processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, stored or sent to a server, and we never see it. There's no account, no tracking and no cookies, and the tool pages don't load anything from third parties. Because none of your file data reaches us, there is no personal data from it that we could process.

The colors you pick are kept in your browser's local storage, so they survive a reload. Clear them with the Clear button or by deleting this site's data.

Is it safe to use?

Yes. Nothing is installed and your file is only read, never changed. Your browser's own video player decodes the file, the same way it plays videos on any website. You can check it yourself: open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab while you work: your file never shows up in a request.

Which video formats work?

Every format your browser can play: MP4 (H.264) and WebM everywhere, MOV and HEVC in Safari and most Chrome versions, MKV in Chrome. If a file doesn't play, convert it to MP4 (H.264) or open the page in another browser.

Can I step through a video frame by frame?

Yes. Use the frame buttons next to the timeline to move back or forward by one frame, then zoom in to pick from that exact frame.

Why do colors look slightly different from my editing app?

Videos are compressed and often stored in a different color range or HDR format. The browser converts the frame to sRGB for display, so values can differ slightly from a grading app. Compression adds noise, so a neighboring pixel can be a shade off: pick a few spots and compare.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Open a video from your camera roll, pause on a frame, tap “Pick a color” and drag. The magnifier floats above your finger.

What can I do with the picked colors?

Copy all HEX codes at once, or press “Import into PickXColor editor”. The editor adds them as one named group on an infinite board, with human color names, HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH and CMYK values, Tailwind-style shades, WCAG contrast checks and code export for CSS, Tailwind, SCSS, Swift and Jetpack Compose.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many colors you pick.
