Picked colors

Colors you pick show up here. Pick as many as you like. They stay here until you import or clear them.

Opens the editor and adds these colors as one group, with names, shades, contrast checks and code export.

How it works

  1. The empty PDF color picker with a drop area

    1Drop your PDF

Drag a PDF onto the page or choose it. It's rendered right in your browser in high resolution. Password-protected files work too.

  2. The PDF page zoomed in with the magnifier showing the pixel grid and the HEX value under the cursor

    2Zoom in and pick

Press “Pick a color”, then click any spot of the PDF page. On a phone, drag and lift your finger. The magnifier shows the pixels around your target, so you hit the exact color.

  3. The colors used on the PDF page listed as swatches, with picked colors below

    3Use the page's own colors

Below the viewer you'll find the exact fill and stroke colors defined on the page. One click adds them. Every pick lands in your color grid.

  4. The PickXColor editor showing the imported colors as a named group of cards

    4Open them in the editor

Press “Import into PickXColor editor” to add all colors as one group, with names, shades, contrast checks and code export.

Frequently asked questions

Is it privacy-safe and GDPR-compliant?

Yes. Your PDF is opened and processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, stored or sent to a server, and we never see it. There's no account, no tracking and no cookies, and the tool pages don't load anything from third parties. Because none of your file data reaches us, there is no personal data from it that we could process.

The colors you pick are kept in your browser's local storage, so they survive a reload. Clear them with the Clear button or by deleting this site's data.

Is it safe to use?

Yes. Nothing is installed and your file is only read, never changed. The PDF is rendered by pdf.js, the same open-source engine Firefox uses to show PDFs, with scripting turned off, so JavaScript inside a PDF never runs. You can check it yourself: open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab while you work: your file never shows up in a request.

Can I pick colors from a password-protected PDF?

Yes. You'll be asked for the password, which is only used in your browser to decrypt the file.

Why is a color different from the CMYK value in the print file?

Screens show RGB, so CMYK, spot and gray colors in a PDF are converted to sRGB for display. The HEX value you get is what the color looks like on screen. For print values, check the document's color settings in the app that made it.

What does “Colors used on this page” show?

The fill and stroke colors the page's vector content sets (text, shapes, lines and chart fills), read straight from the PDF, most used first. Colors inside embedded photos don't appear there; pick those with the eyedropper.

Does it work with multi-page PDFs and on phones?

Yes. Switch pages with the arrows or type a page number. On phones, drag to aim (the magnifier floats above your finger) and pinch to zoom.

What can I do with the picked colors?

Copy all HEX codes at once, or press “Import into PickXColor editor”. The editor adds them as one named group on an infinite board, with human color names, HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH and CMYK values, Tailwind-style shades, WCAG contrast checks and code export for CSS, Tailwind, SCSS, Swift and Jetpack Compose.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many colors you pick.
