Picked colors

Colors you pick show up here. Pick as many as you like. They stay here until you import or clear them.

Opens the editor and adds these colors as one group, with names, shades, contrast checks and code export.

How it works

  1. The empty Office color picker with a drop area

    1Drop your document

Drag a .docx, .pptx or .xlsx file, or an OpenDocument file (.odt, .odp, .ods), onto the page. It's unpacked in your browser.

  2. The theme colors and document colors of a presentation shown as labeled swatches

2See the theme and document colors

The theme's color scheme (dark, light, accents and links) and the colors used in text, fills and shapes are listed. Click one, or “Add all”.

  3. An image from the document opened in the viewer, with the picked colors below

    3Pick from images

Open an embedded image or the slide preview in the viewer, zoom in and pick any pixel with the magnifier.

  4. The PickXColor editor showing the imported colors as a named group of cards

    4Open them in the editor

Press “Import into PickXColor editor” to add all colors as one group, with names, shades, contrast checks and code export.

Frequently asked questions

Is it privacy-safe and GDPR-compliant?

Yes. Your document is opened and processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, stored or sent to a server, and we never see it. There's no account, no tracking and no cookies, and the tool pages don't load anything from third parties. Because none of your file data reaches us, there is no personal data from it that we could process.

The colors you pick are kept in your browser's local storage, so they survive a reload. Clear them with the Clear button or by deleting this site's data.

Is it safe to use?

Yes. Nothing is installed and your file is only read, never changed. The document is unzipped in memory and only its color and image data is read. Macros are never run and nothing is opened by an Office program. You can check it yourself: open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab while you work: your file never shows up in a request.

Which files are supported?

Word (.docx, .docm, .dotx), PowerPoint (.pptx, .pptm, .potx, .ppsx), Excel (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xltx) and OpenDocument text, presentations and spreadsheets (.odt, .odp, .ods). Older binary files (.doc, .ppt, .xls) can't be read. Save them in the newer format first.

What are theme colors?

Every Office document has a theme with twelve colors: two dark and two light text/background colors, six accents and two link colors. They're what Office offers in its color menus, so they usually are the brand colors of a template.

Why don't I see the whole page or slide?

Laying out Office documents exactly like Word or PowerPoint is only possible with Office itself. Instead, we read the colors straight from the file, which is more exact than picking from a rendering, and show the embedded images and the preview thumbnail, when the file has one, for the eyedropper.

Some images are missing. Why?

Images in EMF, WMF or TIFF format can't be shown by browsers; the tool tells you how many were skipped. Export them as PNG from your Office app if you need them.

What can I do with the picked colors?

Copy all HEX codes at once, or press “Import into PickXColor editor”. The editor adds them as one named group on an infinite board, with human color names, HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH and CMYK values, Tailwind-style shades, WCAG contrast checks and code export for CSS, Tailwind, SCSS, Swift and Jetpack Compose.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many colors you pick.
