Frequently asked questions

Is it privacy-safe and GDPR-compliant?

Yes. Your camera feed is opened and processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, stored or sent to a server, and we never see it. There's no account, no tracking and no cookies, and the tool pages don't load anything from third parties. Because none of your file data reaches us, there is no personal data from it that we could process.

The colors you pick are kept in your browser's local storage, so they survive a reload. Clear them with the Clear button or by deleting this site's data.

Is it safe to use?

Yes. Nothing is installed and your file is only read, never changed. The camera only starts when you press the button and stops when you leave the page or switch tabs. The browser always shows when the camera is on. You can check it yourself: open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab while you work: your file never shows up in a request.

How accurate are colors from a camera?

A camera sees color through the light around it, so the same object looks different in daylight, under warm bulbs or in shade. For the most faithful result, use even daylight, and avoid shadows and reflections. The center pick averages a small area to smooth out sensor noise. For matching paint or fabric, compare a few picks.

The camera doesn't start. What can I do?

Allow camera access when your browser asks; if you blocked it before, allow it in the site settings (the icon next to the address bar). Close other apps that use the camera, such as video calls. The camera only works on secure (https) pages, which this site is.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other current mobile browsers. It uses the back camera by default; tap “Switch camera” for the front camera.

What can I do with the picked colors?

Copy all HEX codes at once, or press “Import into PickXColor editor”. The editor adds them as one named group on an infinite board, with human color names, HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH and CMYK values, Tailwind-style shades, WCAG contrast checks and code export for CSS, Tailwind, SCSS, Swift and Jetpack Compose.

Is it free?

Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many colors you pick.
